Working on Figure Skate Outfit

April 18th, 2012 at 08:25 pm

Other crafting and sewing in progress:

Figure Skate Outfit
An experienced seamstress did the outfit, I am adding glue on crystals at the straps and skirt. The swarovski crystals are a very large part of the cost of these outfits (about 1/2).

There are 24 crystals each strap (back not shown), 66 crystals on the skirt.

With the scraps from the skirt I am making a hair band to match.

Am posting this so I can show the craft forum on craigslist (who helped with advice how to attach the crystals).

Wouldn't you like to see the sparkles under multipoint lighting as the skaters glides around the ice?

Oops- skater. One skater. There's not space in there for two.

Yes, the swarovski crystals really flash under the lights on the ice. This outfit cost:

    $120 Custom fitting including materials
20 Crystals (free labor by me)

Not cheap. That is why some of the outfits you see on amateur skaters on TV are astronomical. We would have went with a 2nd hand outfit (there are great choices out there) but this is a duet number and we had to have 2 IDENTICAL ONES. bleh!

We regularly use E6000 to attach Swarovski crystals to my girls' Irish Dance dresses. Have you looked into that? Just dab on with a q-tip and the hold is very strong. Just an idea ...

Yes, that is what I used Laura.

I haven't seen this before with the RITE-AID advertising on the skirt. It kind of reminds me of race car drivers. I hope the sponsors are paying well! Wink (I'm kidding, of course.)
