DH and I are currently on dial up. With one child becoming an internet user, and the second close behind, it's time to move up.
Budget allows for an increase in cost but we're comparing the options:
1. Cable/Internet Combination. Evil cable operator in our area has alienated many of our neighbors and friends, us included. And the program content is not acceptable for my children.
2. Dish/Satellite. Seems to be the most expensive.
3. DSL/additional phone lines. Maybe this is the answer?

I had DSL before I cut it off. They are excellent, especially if you are willing to or already have landline. I was told that you MUST have a landline connection to make DSL work. That and you may be able to negotiate a good combo package that way.
Something similar is true for cable. Although you don't HAVE to have cable to use cable internet, you'll get a much better deal if you already do.
So, the best deal depends on what you already have or would prefer to have more, and whether or not you can get that bundled to a lower price.
On the other hand, your mind may already be made up since you are already not satisfied with cable. In which case, I would recommend looking into DSL.
